Christian is a really funny boy and says the most funniest things. I wanted to share them.

Our car was having a hard time staying started today. Christian said, "I know the problem, the car needs new tires."

Christian: Mom, I'm a little happy now.
Me: why are you a little happy?
Christian: Because somebody is checking to see if I am naughty or nice.
Me: Who is checking to see if you are being naughty or nice.
Christian: Jesus and Santa.

Christian: Mom, what are you?

We had our adoption classes today. When we went to pick of Christian from the babysitters, he said, "Mom, did you get me a sister."

Christian has a new pretend friends Molly, Catalina the snake, and Deona the pig. They live in a nice house which is a apple.

Here are some craft and art projects Heather and Christian have been working on. Christian really enjoys them. It is a nice fun activity that is good preparation for Christian for school. Doing crafts almost ever day has been one of Christian's favorite things to do during the day.

We went Lowe's Build and Grow workshop on Saturday. We put together the little caboose shown below. Christian was tired of hammering by the time we were done. Maybe we should do this type of thing more often.

Christian and Heather went with some friends to the Portland Zoo a few weeks back. Here are some cool photos of the fun time they had there.

I'm doing this blog post for two reasons: One because I love to post cute things Christian is doing. The second because Christian's cousin loves to watch videos of Christian. We miss you Juliet!

Christian is now almost four and has been big in Baseball lately. He will come up to me and say lets play baseball. How can you say no to this cute little boy! I think he is going to be great at what ever sport, he decides to play.

Last Saturday (June 11), We went to Newport, Oregon to meet up with my brother and his family. It was so fun to see family again. We met them at the Aquarium and spent about 3 hours with them touring the aquarium. Nathan's kids were very good and waited with their parents. Christian on the other hand, had no time to wait. He wanted to see everything on the express tour.

Astoria Oregon

We decided that we need to get out of the apartment and view the sites around us. Chris has wanted to visit Astoria for years.

Astoria Bridge - It is the longest truss bridge in North America. It is 4 miles across the Columbia
river.

This was the first stop that we made in Astoria. We knew that Christian would love to ride on the Trolley. He even got to ring the train's bell.

Christian pretty much ran up the stairs. Once we were at the top of the column, he didn't want to see the scenery. Christian just wanted to run down the stairs.

The next trip was Fort Steven's. We didn't get to see all the sites because we were having too much fun playing at the beach.

8 year Anniversary!

On Sunday (May 15) will be 8 years since we got married. We decided to celebrate our anniversary today because Chris has to work on Saturday. The weather was just perfect to go and visit the Columbia River Gorge Falls.

Potty training has not been as easy as I thought it was going to be. Christian started going potty at the age of 18 months. He would be interested in going for about 2 weeks and then would want to stop. This has been happening off and on until now. I was starting to get really worried because he showed no signs in wanting to be potty trained. I have tried everything from games to restaurants and finally I decide to try a fish. Every time we go to Walmart, Christian wants to go look at the fish. Last Wednesday, I told Christian that if he would go potty and received enough stickers to fill up his chart, we would buy him a fish.

On Saturday, Christian got his fish (Gill). He was pretty excited but decided that he wanted a whale instead of a fish. I told him that he couldn't have a whale because they are too big. I don't know if I should say that he is finally potty trained or not but has done really well for over a week.

We've moved a lot lately. In February, we moved to Southern Utah because Chris got a better job that was less stressful. We loved his work schedule. He worked from 7:00 am until 3:30 pm. It was nice to have some quality time together after he was done with work. We lived right by Chris' parents. It was great because I got to have someone to talk to during the day and Christian got to know Chris' parents better.

A few weeks after going South, Chris noticed an IT opening up in Portland and decided to apply for it. He didn't think he would have any chance of getting it. Chris flew to Portland for the interview and everything went well. A week later they offered him the position. After only being in Southern Utah for two months, we made the move to the Portland area. We live in Vancouver, Washington just across the Columbia river and Oregon border from Portland.

So many people, in so many ways have recently demonstrated their kindness through service. For example, the Elders quorum in Vancouver helped us move some of our heavy stuff into our apartment. This was a blessing as we were so tired from moving box after box, there wasn't much left in personal energy tanks. Our family spent many hours helping us load up and clean at our home in Utah. To anyone who helped us move, thanks. A special thanks goes to Chris' parents for allowing us to live next to them and spoiling us.

Christian turned 3 on Tuesday ( December 28). I can't believe that he is 3 years old. We feels so happy that we are his parents.

Christian got his first package of gum. That was his favorite birthday gift. He kept asking Chris and me if we wanted a piece of gum. He did a great job sharing his gum. Only one piece of gum was left at the end of the day.

We went to Chris' parent's house this year for Christmas. We had a great time spending time with siblings, cousins, and Grandpa and Grandma. It was great to see all the little kids get along and play so cute together.

Christian was so excited about his Thomas the Train PJ, that he had to put them on as soon as he opened them.

Christian got Thomas the Train set and has not stopped playing with it ever since. That also means that I haven't stopped playing either because he needs someone to play trains with him.

We had a hard time trying to come up with a costume this year. When I saw my nephew's cute monkey costume, I decided that Christian should be a monkey as well. The last couple of years, I wanted Christian to be a monkey but I didn't like any of the monkey costumes. Old Navy saved me this year because this costume was cute and cheap.

Christian was so excited about Halloween. He heard that we were going to go Trick or Treating he want to go right then. He seemed like a pro this year. I think it was because my parents did a Halloween party which included Trick or Treating.

We were going to take our first family trip. While we were visiting family, Chris' Grandma ended up having a stroke. We canceled our family trip and spent hours of time with family both good and sad. We sure are going to miss Chris' Grandma. She was a great Lady!

I felt like it was time to try to potty train Christian but I didn't know where to begin. I read online to find his favorite stuff animal and have it be part of the potty training process. Chris want to go fishing for Family Home Evening on Monday. While Chris was fishing, Christian and I found this fun slide. I never when down this slide but it sure was fun watching Christian. He liked it so much, he didn't even want to feed the ducks again.

Christian kept making these shots and we had to get it on video. Of course, once we started filming him, he didn't make them as much.

Chris was show Christian how to do a kick out pass. Christian didn't think that is how it should be done. This is how he thought a kick out pass should be done. What cleaver thinking this boy has!

Three weeks ago, we went to visit Chris' parents. Chris' brother also came to visit and gave Christian a big wheel. Christian wasn't very teachable and was very determined to ride his bike Fred Flintstone style. Well yesterday, he started really trying to pedal. Today, all day he was trying but it was really hard to do it on our carpet. I decided to take him outside to see if he could really pedal. He does really well down hill but struggles more going up hill. It's so fun to watch him grow up but sad at the same time. I sure love this boy of mine.

Christian and I invited Melanie and Juliet to come and feed the ducks. Christian and Juliet are best of buddies and have fun everytime they are together.

Juliet was getting really hot and we decided to try to cooler off by getting her face and hair wet. That turn into wanting to put her feet in,to wanting to stand, to wanting to walk. Christian was really scared to get in because he saw all the gross things in the water. We finally got him to stand in the water.

Christian wanted to sit in the water but didn't dare do it where it was really dirty. Once I set him here he didn't want to leave. I think Juliet felt the same way.

In December, someone was so generous and gave us enough money to adopt again. We want to publicly thank who ever you are for giving us this money. We feel bad that it has taken us this long to thank the person who gave us this great gift. If you know who this person is, please pass this message of thanks to them. Christian is getting excited and when we ask him what he want out of a brother or a sister. He says, "sisto" ninety-five percent of the time. We will have to see if he is right. He is starting to put his doll in his crib to sleep with at nights.

Christian just totally loves his hoop. Every day he can't wait for his Dad to come home. When he hears a noise that sounds like the garage door, he says " Dad home hoops". Chris raised the basketball hoop and Christian can still make it. When he is in a bad mood, he has a hard time shooting the ball in the hoop. When this happens he says, "big". Meaning the hoop is too tall. He is so cute!

Christian has been trying really hard to dribble. It won't be too long before he can.

Yesterday, I took Christian to get his 2 year old pictures done. I was worried at first because Christian wouldn't even stay in the room. I felt bad for the photographer because he tried to make Christian smile but for the most part he failed. We got a few pictures of him smiling. This year we spent Christmas with Chris' family. We haven't had Christmas with them for several years. It was fun to see almost all of Chris' family. We wished David and Rahel could have be there.

Santa brought Christian a Little Tikes Basketball Hoop. He has totally loved having it. He hasn't stopped playing with it since Christmas. It has been fun to watch Chris and Christian shoot hoops together. It is so cute because Christian tries to shoot it where Chris shoots it.

Chris gave Christian a book this year. Christian is having fun looking at the book.

Christian turned two. We decided this year that we would celebrate it with his cousin Jayden because her birthday is the day after. We had dinner as a family: roast, twice bake potatoes, peas, jello salad, and rolls.

Chris finished his semester on last Friday. We decided to just spend Saturday doing things as a family. Chris and I started the day off by playing Doctor Mario. We had so much fun because it has been a really long time since we have played the Nintendo together. After Christian's nap, we decided to take Christian sledding for the first time.

Over all I think Christian will like the snow more after he has better gloves. So far, he hasn't had great experience with the snow. My mom bought him snow pants and boots as a early birthday gift. She took him out in his new gear and he fell face forward into the snow. Learning to walk in his snow boots presents a new challenge for him. I hope he will eventually like the snow.

Christian has starting to really like to help out. He can help unload the dishwasher, load the washing the machine, and dryer.

Here he is washing my dishes. I feel so lucky that he loves to scrub those pots and pans. Christian might not feel so lucky in the coming years when he gets to wash dishes. We better savor these moments, because they won't much longer.

Christian likes to help sweep and mop the floor. It sure would be easier right now if he would let me do these chores. I think it is good to teach children to work while they are young.

Christian is getting really good at catching the ball. I sometimes think that he can catch the ball better than I can. We can't believe how athletic he is at a young age.

Christian's favorite game is Ring a Round the Rosie. Here Christian is doing his own version of Ring Around the Rosie. I love it how Christian loves monkeys just like me.

Who ever thought a kid would want to spend hours playing in the sink? Well this has become one of Christian's favorite pastimes. America has baseball and Christian has the sink. Such is life as the only child of two poor love birds wanting another one. Christian has the faucet and measuring cups for a playmates!!! One wet floor and soggy diaper later, Christian could not have been happier.

It took us while to figure out what we wanted Christian to be for Halloween. Once we decided there was no going back. Christian was so happy to get a new football as part of his costume. I think this was his favorite part. Although, he did enjoy every single minute of Halloween. What a cute site to see Christian carrying his football in one hand and his treat bucket in the other hand!

Chris' work had a little Trick or Treat event. All the kids went to each little pod to get treats. Some of the pods had crape paper and skeletons hanging down, and another one had a fake bat flying around. Christian didn't care for the crape paper but loved seeing the bat fly around. In this picture Christian looks really scare and that is because he is. He was absolutely terrified of this one Halloween bowl. We enjoyed spending time with Chris.

Our families once again met together for a Canadian Thanksgiving celebration. This year Mark and Cheree were so kind to let us meet at the dental office and have our family feast! I have decide that until the weather is too cold to take Christian to the park, we are going to go. We have gone 4 times this week. Christian just loves the park and it is so fun to see his excitement as he runs to go down the slide again. I love taking him because the park entertains him for sometime.

Christian is getting so big. He can climb this mountain all by himself. I guess I shouldn't have been surprised when he first climbed it but I was. He is so funny. If there is any wood chips on the mountain, he has to brush them off and says "ewew".

Before Christian goes down the slide he says "ready, set, go". It is so fun to hear him talk more.

Christian is in that stage where he loves to try on other peoples shoes. Before tonight, he would only put on one shoe and walk around. We showed him how to put on both shoes. He had so much fun just walking around in them.

It is so fun to see how Christian is understanding a lot more of what we tell him. At dinner time, I told him to go get his chair chair. While he was bringing it over it got stuck. He was so frustrated and started to cry. I told him to say help Dad. A hour later, he said help when he need help putting on the shoes.

Lately Christian has been climbing up on everything that he can climb on. I feel like I have to constantly be watching because I'm afraid he will fall from a far distance. I think I now know why I am tired and want to take a nap every day.

Last week, I was in the kitchen cleaning up and Christian went into his room. When he didn't come right out to find me, I knew that I need to see what he was doing. I found Christian siting on his Changing table.

Christian has been doing this trick for some time but it is usually when he is hungry. I guess he can also use it to get himself a drink.

Christian just loves to climb on the bar stools to get into trouble. He also will climb up on them to sit on my lap. We finally had to put the bar stools against the wall.
This is one I really don't like when he climbs on the toilet to get to the sink because of course he turns on the hot water.

Last Reunion For This Year!

This weekend we had a Reunion with my Grandma and all of her children. We haven't had a reunion for five years. We stayed at his place called Camelot Resort Pinnacle Lodge. This place had a big cabin that had nine bedrooms and had 3 small cabins. It was great fun getting every one together and catching up, playing games, watching the kids play with Lizards, hearing stories and jokes, and watching a talent show.

Christian wanted to eat cereal while sitting on Chris' lap. They tried it for awhile but it was not working to well. Christian kept getting cereal all over Chris. He was so upset that he couldn't eat cereal any more that I decided to put him in his high chair.

Christian's Way: The best way to eat is not bothering with the spoon, just dive in head first and you can get as much as you want.

Maybe he isn't quite ready for less guidance while eating.

On July 22, 2009, Christian used the toilet for the first time. For the last month, he has somehow gotten the idea to pee in the bath. This is really annoying, so I decided that every time he stood up to pee, I would put him on the step stool and see if he would go in the toilet. I was very shocked when he went pee on Wednesday. Yesterday, Christian wanted to go outside. I decided that I would take him out but I would water our garden, while I watch Christian. My idea didn't work so well. I gave up and just went and played with Christian. Tonight Chris and I took Christian outside to see how our garden is growing. Christian walked over to the hose and then to the faucet. Christian really loves balloons. Every time we go to the grocery store, Christian will point at the balloon that the store uses for decoration. I can tell that he was one really bad. This weekend we traveled to Southern Utah to visit family and participate in the Utah Summer Games. I was also going to take a test at Dixie to finish my MCSE, but due to a scheduling error, I was unable to do so, and spent a relaxing hour on the phone at a gas station enjoying Prometric's stellar 5-star customer service. Actually, the individual I worked with was fairly helpful, but dealing with Prometric during my Microsoft certification has been one hassle after another. We'll get to happier part of the weekend in a few minutes, but while I am on the subject, my conscience requires me to say a few things about this organization. A few weeks ago, I was taking an exam using Prometric as a provider. With about 20 min left in the exam, my computer froze and I couldn't finish. After the testing center did everything they could to get back up and running, but to no avail. I had to make multiple phone calls to prometric to get my scores which didn't occur for a few days. Normally you get your score right after you test and so you know what areas you need to improve if you don't happen to pass the exam. Finally after a rather fun little chat with one of their reps, I got my score report in about five minutes and I didn't even have to swear.....amazing. I asked Andre, the rep I was speaking with why the previous individual do what he did, and his reply: "I don't know." More incentive for me to provide better customer service while I am at work.

So finally, with my exam safely rescheduled, we arrived in Southern Utah in enough time to eat a nice steak dinner. Heather was nice enough to let me go fishing. We tested out my Grandpa's old boat that my Dad has been working on. Jon came up from Las Vegas this weekend and so Dad, Jon and I went to the local reservoir. I had a lot of fun. We were only on the water for about an hour and a half, and caught seven fish combined, if I remember right....this is a fish story after all. As with all Mortensen sponsored fishing trips, we arrived home well after dark.

Because of fishing, I didn't go to bed until quite late, so I arrived in Cedar City later than desired. I had to wait a while to warm up because all of the table tennis tables were full. After a short warm up, I played a few preliminary matches to determine skill level. I went 1-1 in the preliminaries. So I ended up in the B division, with there being Open, A, B, C, and D divisions played. Like last year, I finished third earning a bronze medal. The funny thing is, I defeated the guy who placed second, but he defeated the first place finisher, so really there was a three way tie in records. In table tennis pool play, you keep track of everything down to the amount of points you score in each game, because your score combined with your record determines how you finish in the event of a tie. Because I was so tired after playing, I was glad that I didn't have a play-off for placing. I didn't really go to the games to win, I just went to play and continue my progress in the sport. Lately, I haven't been feeling well enough to play on a regular basis, so going to the summer games was a good opportunity to test my skills. I wish there was another in state table tennis tournament in August, but to my knowledge the next one is the Utah Open in November. I will just keep practicing till then.

Forbush Family Reunion, Read all about it!

My family had a reunion up in Heber City. The reunion started on June 11 and went until the 13. The cabin had 8 bedrooms and 6 bathrooms. We had such a great time doing all kinds of activities such as: listening to stories from my mom about my great grandma, having family Olympic activities, talent show, playing pool and ping pong. Weekend Adventures

On Saturday, we planted a garden. Last year, we just planted corn in a flower bed. This year we decided to dig up some of our grass and plant a garden. We planted corn, tomatoes, green bell peppers, peas, and watermelon. It was fun to spend time together working while Christian took his nap.

After planting the garden, we went to Kari and Steven's house to spend time with them and also Chris' parents. We decide to go an climb Mt. Timpanogos. Chris's mom volunteered to stay back with Christian while we went. I am really glad we did because I don't think I could make it with carrying him or a back pack.

Our 6 Year Anniversary Vacation

Chris and I had our six year anniversary on the May 15. Chris took Friday and Monday off to spend time together. We decided to go to Southern Utah and spend time with Chris' family. We came up on Thursday night. On Friday, Chris studied while I chased Christian around the house. Later that night, Chris' parents watched Christian while we went to stay at the Abbey Inn in St. George. We went to dinner at Red Lobster and went shopping then we went to the hotel room. It was so nice just to relax and watch T.V together. On Saturday, we went hiking with Kari and Steven. We decided to go on some hikes that Chris hadn't been to before and that were easy enough for me. My old roommate Michelle had posted on her blog, a hike called Red Hollow. While we were looking into it, we found another hike that we could do also called Spring Hollow. Spring Hollow was suppose to be a water hike but due to drought there was no water. Christian has been totally addicted to clementines. He will go to the fridge when he wants one, and will wait until I open the fridge. I usually have to give him the clementine to get him out of the fridge. He gets really mad when I take it away to peel it. On Saturday, I wanted to see what he would do if I just let him keep it.

Christian is at a fun stage in many ways. For instance he loves to put things on his head. One of his tricks is to put his ball on his head and then try to catch it. Christian is starting to understand more what I am saying to him. He now can wave to say "hi" or " bye".

I wanted to share with everyone, how fun breakfast, lunch, and dinner is for Christian. I for one am excited when meal time isn't so messy. Although I have to say Christian can do some funny tricks while eating. Recently, he enjoyed putting his cup on top of his head and balancing it. Grace school here we come!

Snow Camping

I went snow camping with some of the scouts in our ward. Honestly, I was scared to death, but all in all it turned out to be okay. I didn't sleep to well, but I was not cold during the night, so that was a plus. We slept in snow caves that had been constructed the weekend before. Most of the structures had picnic table skeletons; the scouts and leaders dug out the snow from under the tables at the camp ground. I really wasn't looking forward to going, and participating in the scouting program hasn't been my favorite thing, but I think this outing was a turning point for the better. Christian has recently started playing with balls. Heather started this by rolling the ball across our coffee table to him. Christian will grab the ball and sometimes roll it back. Sometimes he just holds it and now he bounces the ball off the coffee table. I wonder if he is trying to dribble. We took him to my nephew's basketball game this past weekend, and after we got back he has been doing this ever since. This could just be coincidence but nonetheless it is very entertaining to watch. A few days ago, just for fun, I tossed Christian the ball, only from like a foot a way, and to my surprise, he caught it! We repeated this several times and he caught it more than once, so it is not a fluke. I was so impressed! Here are some videos of his new found skills:

We spent Christmas Eve and Christmas with my parents. We went to Nathan and Sarah's for Christmas Eve dinner. This is what we had for dinner: Cook shrimp, cold shrimp, clam chowder, rolls, a vegetable tray, and rice. In my family growing up we had clam chowder. I like Nathan and Sarah tradition with the clam chowder. They put some kind of nut in their clam chowder and who ever gets the nut, gets a surprise. I was the lucky one that got the nut. The prize was the game Janga. I was really excited for two reasons: one that Christian has blocks to play with and two that the game is just plan fun.

We stayed to for the Christmas Eve activities: watching Disney Christmas carol, acted out the nativity, and watched Luke II.

On Christmas, we had fun just watching Christians first experience with Christmas. Christian go a bike that plays music. He loves it. He mostly just likes the music. He got a phone and some clothes from Grandpa and Grandma. Here is a cute video of him playing with his bike:

I received: towels from Chris, a shirt, a digital picture fame, SD card, micro SD card, and a new pantry. My sister-in-law, came up with this idea to put shelves in our coat closet to make a pantry. My dad and brother made this present a reality. I am so happy with this present because we need more space to put our food. Thanks so very much to all who helped with this project!!!

I am sorry it has taken me awhile to post our 2008 Thanksgiving pictures. I kind of went on strike for a couple day. We went to Chris' parents house for Thanksgiving this year. Chris and I went on Monday night and it was fun to be able to stay for almost a week. Half of Chris' family was there: Mike and Tammy and their children, Jon, Veronica, and Reuben, David, Chris' parents, and us. We had a great time talking, going to the black Friday sales, and going and visiting Chris' Grandma. She had a hip replacement. It was great to see her because the last time Christian saw her, he was only 3 months old. Christian had a great old time at the rest home. He kept want to go to the salon. I gave in and let Chris have his way. I let my mom cut Christian hair. My mom, Greg, and Chris thinks it looks a lot better. I just miss the cute tight curls. He still looks really cute. We are going to try to have family pictures done this next week. I hope it will work out and turn out cute.

Needless to say, Christian didn't like his haircut. Chris is sure happy that I gave in and let it happen.
